Forgive me, dear readers, for I have sinned.
I have been derelict in updating you all here about what’s going on and how training is going, and there are good reasons for that. I have been dealing with a number of serious issues in my life and there’s been so much to deal with in my own head that I left you all in the dark.
For that, I’m sorry.
On the other hand, taking time to heal my soul has been incredibly important and now, after a few months of healing and growth, I’m starting to feel like it’s time to let you all back in again.
Some updates: It’s been a winter of healing and introspection. Spending time sitting in my feelings and processing them instead of numbing myself with activity or other
There’s no good reason for my season of dereliction when it comes to posting here.
So many things happened this year that I can’t possibly hope to recap them all in a text on my blog that many people won’t read to the end of.
No, what’s important is not that I was feeling in a place where I didn’t really want to share what was going on with me, but now, I am.
That’s real growth. I know that I’ll never be perfect, but it’s worth striving to be the best version of myself at all times. Not just for me, but for my kids, my dog and my family.
It’s worth it. I’m worth it. So are you, my loyal readers. The very large majority of you are definitely worth it.
As for the rest of my life, I’m grateful for my friends and for those that choose to be part of my life as I am grateful for them making me a part of theirs. The warmth I have felt in the past few months from that has lit the way in an often cold, dark winter. It’s been a fucking delight, to say the least. Learning about myself through the scope of that lens has been an incredible journey.
My kids are absolutely killing it in the classroom and on the athletic playing fields. My daughter – who will be 20 at the end of the week HOLY JESUS I’M OLD – has been scoring goals and helping her John Abbott women’s hockey team shake off a tough start to the season, all the while succeeding in the classroom at a high level.
She takes time to be a good friend, and a good teammate and a great student. She will be taking her determination and drive off to Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y. in September on a full athletic scholarship, and I couldn’t be prouder of her. Obviously, I’d be proud of her no matter what she did, but this accomplishment is something to really brag about.
So, I’m doing just that.
My son should not be forgotten, either. That amazing kid has reeled off an impressive career in football to this point, and was named the Most Valuable Lineman in each of the last two Quebec Bantam Football League championship games, in which our Lakeshore team completed a third straight undefeated season capped off with championship-game victories. The boy was also named the top offensive lineman in the league at a recent QBFL awards banquet. I couldn’t be prouder of him, either.
It’s been an incredible run, and I’m so blessed to work with great coaches such as Glen Cooper, Ted Stote, Fred Thibault, Andrew Horn, Greg Dottin, Brett Herrick, Jesse Roberts and our brand-new bantam offensive coordinator Stephane Nadon. What a treat it is to work with other people who take football as seriously as I take it.
With the offseason now running its course, we’re getting ready for the next go-round. We will start the season this week and we will begin our preparation immediately. Next season, my son will be playing his first season of Quebec Midget Football League football and after that, it’s likely he’ll consider which CEGEP he’d like to continue his career with.
Just amazing.
I think also of the other kids I coach and to a person, those kids make me smile and fill my heart with joy.
I wish the very same for you, dear readers.
That said, growth and emotional maturity is a lot easier to handle with weight training, which remains my daily emotional outlet for managing my emotions. It helps me feel better, channel my anxiety and helps me sleep – as sleeping remains my greatest challenge – and its daily benefits are something that I literally cannot do without.
So, if you’re interested in getting into the gym in a way that won’t be traumatic and will help you hang onto energy rather than deplete it, contact me today. I can’t overstate how a little bit of investment in time and energy now will pay off in the long run. Working with my clients on a daily basis and the young football players I work with fills me with joy and never makes me feel tired.
